CHAPTER NINE

Sunday November 26 Early Morning

Marc went out at seven on some last minute Garou Industries business and took Anton and two Enforcers, leaving Philippe with Colin. Before he left he told Colin, “If you need to go out, take Philippe and two Enforcers with you. I don’t need anymore to worry about, and some Alphas could interpret your lack of an escort as a sign of weakness on my part.”

“Detective Murphy said the thieves have in his words ‘copped a plea’ so he needs nothing from us to prove his case. I’ll go make some calls to get coverage for the Tuesday and Thursday classes and then I’ll help Michelle and Giles pack our things.” Colin gave Marc a light kiss.

“That sounds like a plan. We’ll leave as soon as I get home.” Marc got ready to go.

“By the way, do they allow kittens in the condos? The concierge had a basket of them he found in the dumpster with their mother. They’re not old enough to leave her yet as they’re still nursing. I’d like to get one when we get back if it’s okay. You can pick him.” Colin peered at Mark from under his lashes.

“You don’t have to bribe me.” Marc laughed. “We’ll pick him together. It’s good that it’s too early to take them, it would be better to wait until we get back. The scent of so many wolves at home might overwhelm it until he gets used to us and knows he’s not considered prey.”

Marc left the apartment, and Colin went to his room. He was packing his things when the house phone rang. He knew that Michelle and Giles were busy, so he answered the phone. “Hello, Thierry residence.”

“You must be the scarred mate that our Alpha got stuck with. I’m Lorraine. I need the Alpha.”

“You’ll have to wait, he isn’t in. I’ll tell him you called.” Colin hung up. He didn’t let the vicious she-wolf’s comment bother him. A month ago his eyes would already be filling up. Marc entered the penthouse just as Colin was about to call him. Colin came out with both barrels blasting. “Your Alpha Bitch called and she is, in fact, a bitch in the human sense of the word. She asked if I was the scarred mate that you got stuck with.”

“She what?” Colin could hear the fury in Marc’s voice.

“She asked if I was the scarred mate,” Colin said, resignation creeping into his voice, under the anger. “Are you going to have a hard time with your pack because of my scar?” There it was, that small note of insecurity creeping into his voice.

“No, not at all. our last Alpha was scarred deeply by a fire and had scars that were much worse than yours, scars that he couldn’t even shift away. I told you, I knew a man with scars that danced in the clubs. I was referring to our former Alpha. No one ever thought less of him. This bitch is leaving, whether she wins the challenge or not.
